Ville Eloranta

Ville is Director of Aalto University’s interdisciplinary flagship master’s program, International Design Business Management (IDBM), a role he has held since 2021. He has been responsible for teaching in the program since 2018 and has wide experience across all levels of university education, including MBA programs. His teaching focuses on innovating, organizing, and operating business ecosystems and platform-based business models, as well as leading interdisciplinary creativity. His teaching performance is certified (AmO) and evaluated as Excellent (TCAC).
Ville’s research spans over a decade at the intersection of digital technologies, organizational complexity, and new forms of value creation, with particular emphasis on decentralized, ecosystem-based business models. His work has received international recognition, including an EIC Innovation Prize and EU Innovation Radar acknowledgement, for research on the role of anti-rival digital goods, digital resources that increase in value as they are more widely used.
He has served as Principal Investigator for major European initiatives, including the €2.75 million EU Horizon 2020 (EIC Pathfinder) project ATARCA and the €1.2 million EIT-funded C-ACCELERATE project, which focuses on advancing entrepreneurial education through creative communities. His research has been published in leading international journals.
In addition to his academic work, Ville brings extensive industry and entrepreneurial experience, with 17 years of leading interdisciplinary teams and international operations, including founding and successfully exiting a company operating across three countries.
