Language in IB and Management: Perspectives for the Next 50 Years
TAIMI researcher Hilla Back, together with an international group of scholars, has contributed to a new chapter titled “Language in IB and management: Perspectives for the next 50 years.”
The chapter explores the current role of language in international business and management research while looking ahead to future developments in the field. Written as a conversation between expert panelists, the publication brings together both senior and junior scholars working on language and linguistic diversity from different perspectives.
The discussion focuses on four key themes:
- Language and power
- Language and technology
- Language and mobility
- Language-sensitive methods in international business
The authors highlight that language is not only relevant to language-sensitive international business research, but also to mainstream international business and management studies. In diverse business environments, language shapes communication, inclusion, power relations, mobility, and everyday organizational life.
Looking toward the next 50 years, the chapter emphasizes the strong potential of language research to deepen our understanding of what happens inside international business organizations and society more broadly.
This publication contributes timely insights into the future of language-sensitive research and underlines the importance of linguistic diversity in international business and management.
