Markku Sippola

Markku Sippola is Senior Lecturer in Social Policy at the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Helsinki, and Docent in Social and Public Policy at the University of Eastern Finland. His research focuses on labour markets, industrial relations, migration, skills, and social policy in Finland and the European Union.
He has extensive research experience on migrant labour and labour market inequalities as well as processes of skill recognition, utilisation, and misrecognition in institutional and organisational contexts. In addition to his role in the TAIMI project, he serves as Principal Investigator of the research project Critical Nodes: Migrant workers within labour networks (2024–2028), funded by the Research Council of Finland. Within WP3, he is responsible for research on the alignment between DEI ideals, skills, and everyday workplace practices in the care and IT sectors.
