Nathan Lillie

Nathan Lillie is Professor of Social and Public Policy at the University of Jyväskylä and holds a PhD in Industrial and Labor Relations from Cornell University. He is an internationally recognised scholar of labour relations, migration, and worker representation in transnational and technologically transforming labour markets.
His research spans global collective bargaining in maritime shipping, union representation of mobile workers in the European Union, migrant labour market integration, labour market discrimination, and labour inspection cooperation. His work has appeared in leading journals across industrial relations, political science, and migration studies.
Nathan has led and managed major international research programmes funded by the EU Commission (DG Employment), the European Research Council (ERC), Horizon Europe, and the Academy of Finland. In the TAIMI project, he leads Work Package 1, examining how trade unions negotiate rapid technological change in the context of green and digital transitions, and how these changes affect precarious workers, particularly migrants.
