TAIMI Researcher Rebecca Piekkari Moderated Discussions on Language and Diversity at Deusto Business School

TAIMI researcher Rebecca Piekkari recently participated in discussions at Deusto Business School, where she moderated student-led roundtables on the theme “The Language of Global Firms: Unity Through English or Strength in Diversity?”

The roundtables explored questions related to language, belonging, diversity, and communication in global organizations. Through dialogue, exchange of perspectives, and critical reflection, students examined how language practices shape inclusion, participation, and organizational culture in increasingly international working environments.

The discussions highlighted that language in global organizations is not only a practical issue of communication, but also closely connected to questions of identity, power, belonging, and diversity.

Creating space for these conversations is an important part of understanding the realities and challenges faced by international organizations today. Academic dialogue and student engagement can offer valuable new perspectives on issues that many organizations continue to navigate in practice.

At TAIMI, we value opportunities to connect research, teaching, and discussion across different educational and international contexts. It is encouraging to see these conversations continue in ways that support critical thinking and broader understanding of diversity and inclusion in working life.
